Zaxby’s, the Georgia-based fast-casual restaurant known for its chicken and signature Zax Sauce, is making a major menu change in honor of its 35th anniversary. The chain has announced the return of its beloved hand-spun milkshakes, seven years after they were removed from menus nationwide.
Best known for its slogans like “Real Chicken, Real Good” and “Indescribably Good,” Zaxby’s has long been a favorite across the Southeastern U.S., drawing crowds with its wings, salads, and sandwiches. Now, longtime fans will be able to enjoy one of the brand’s most-missed items — its classic milkshakes.
Originally discontinued in 2017, Zaxby’s confirmed the menu change on social media at the time, writing on X (formerly Twitter), “Sadly, we are discontinuing our milkshakes because it was time for the boys to leave the yard.” Since then, the shakes had only been available in Macon, Georgia, as part of a “Milkshake Tourism” campaign launched in February 2024.
To mark the milestone year, Zaxby’s is reintroducing the milkshakes to all locations — including the popular Birthday Cake flavor — and offering a limited-time half-off promotion.
“At Zaxby’s, we believe every great celebration deserves something sweet,” said Patrick Schwing, Chief Marketing and Strategy Officer at Zaxby’s. “What better way to mark our 35th birthday than by bringing back our fan-favorite milkshakes, including the Birthday Cake flavor, with a half-off deal that’s just as sweet.”
He added, “This is our way of celebrating our loyal fans who have been with us since the beginning. As the Sauce Boss says, Happy Birthday to us all!”
The return of the milkshakes adds a nostalgic touch to the brand’s anniversary celebrations and serves as a thank-you to its dedicated customer base.
