McDonald’s has added a new twist to its iconic McFlurry, marking the dessert’s 30th anniversary with a special limited-time treat. The new Birthday Cake McFlurry features classic vanilla soft-serve blended with frosted cake-flavored cookie dough pieces and drizzled with birthday cake syrup.
The McFlurry was first created in 1995 by Canadian franchisee Ron McLellan in Bathurst, New Brunswick. Since then, it has become a global favorite and a key part of McDonald’s menu. Its success has inspired many competitors to develop similar frozen desserts, such as Dairy Queen’s Blizzard, Sonic’s Custard Concretes, Chick-fil-A’s Cookies & Cream milkshake, and Wendy’s Frosty Swirls and Frosty Fusions.
Currently, the Birthday Cake McFlurry is available only in Canada. McDonald’s customizes its menu to suit local tastes and ingredient availability, which is why this new flavor is exclusive to the Canadian market for now.
Although McDonald’s has not announced plans to bring the Birthday Cake McFlurry to the U.S., fans hope its popularity in Canada will lead to a wider release. As with many limited-edition items, a strong response in one country could open the door for expansion to other markets.
