McDonald’s has opened a new restaurant at 11710 Rockville Pike in North Bethesda, replacing the former Arby’s location that closed in May 2021. Construction began last fall, and this site introduces McDonald’s “On the Go” concept to Maryland for the first time.
Unlike traditional McDonald’s restaurants, this new location has a smaller lobby and focuses mainly on delivery, drive-thru, and pick-up services. It operates 24 hours a day and is available for ordering through the McDonald’s app. This is a notable change from the previous McDonald’s less than half a mile away, which did not have a drive-thru option.
According to Restaurant Business Online, the “On the Go” concept features innovative food lockers dedicated to delivery orders. While food lockers are common internationally and in some restaurants, this is McDonald’s first test of them in the U.S. Mobile orders will be collected from a separate pick-up window.
This North Bethesda location is part of McDonald’s broader strategy to improve customer convenience using delivery services and mobile order technology. The restaurant may also include outdoor seating for customers who wish to eat on-site.
