In celebration of National Biscuit Day, Popeyes UK is giving away 10,000 of its signature US-style Biscuits with Hot Honey — but customers will need to act quickly to claim one.
The fast-growing American fried chicken chain is rolling out the free treat across its UK locations to introduce more Brits to the classic Southern delicacy. The giveaway aims to dispel confusion around the American-style biscuit, which many in the UK mistakenly believe is a dessert similar to a scone.
To receive a free biscuit, customers must download and register for the Popeyes UK app by midnight on Tuesday, May 28.
Those who do will automatically be entered into the giveaway, with one entry allowed per person.
The promotion comes in the lead-up to National Biscuit Day on Thursday, May 29. According to recent research cited by Popeyes, 94% of Brits say they love biscuits, yet two-thirds are unfamiliar with the American version. In fact, four in ten people said they’d rather give up social media than biscuits — but most don’t know what a biscuit actually is in the American culinary tradition.
Popeyes’ biscuit, a longtime staple of its U.S. menu since its founding in 1972, is light, fluffy, and savoury, with a buttery texture. Unlike the crumbly, sweet British scone, it is made with a buttermilk base and is typically served as a side dish with fried chicken.
“At first glance, they do look very similar to the traditional scone, so it’s no surprise fans this side of the pond often ask about them,” said Dave Hoskins, Head of Food at Popeyes UK. “However, the Biscuit was one of our most requested items when we first announced we were coming to the UK. What better time than National Biscuit Day to clear up the confusion and give Brits the chance to taste the difference for themselves?”
Those who miss the giveaway can still sample the biscuit for £1.79 at any of Popeyes UK’s 65+ restaurants nationwide or via the app and delivery services.
The campaign not only highlights Popeyes’ American roots but also reflects its strategy of introducing authentic U.S. menu items to a growing UK customer base.
