Sonic is stepping into the premium beverage spotlight with the launch of three all-new Sweet Topped Lemonades, directly challenging the popular layered drink offerings from coffee giants like Starbucks and Dutch Bros.
Beginning May 27 via the Sonic App and rolling out in restaurants nationwide on June 2, the drive-in chain will serve up its twist on the trend: Classic Lemonade, Strawberry Lemonade, and Blueberry Lavender Lemonade—all finished with a generous layer of smooth, sweetened cold foam. This addition offers a rich, creamy contrast to the bright and tangy lemonade base, promising a refreshing new way to cool off this summer.
Fast food beverages have become a major part of the dining experience in recent years. Chains like Burger King, McDonald’s, and Little Caesars have all launched eye-catching, exclusive drink options—from frozen Fanta flavors to house-made lemonades and custom Mountain Dew varieties. Sonic is no stranger to drink innovation either, long offering mix-ins like Nerds candy to customize its expansive drink menu.
What makes Sonic’s latest release stand out is the nod to coffeehouse favorites, blending the crisp taste of lemonade with the layered texture and sweetness typically associated with iced lattes or refreshers. The new line mirrors the kind of indulgent, Instagram-friendly drinks that have become popular at premium coffee chains.
Beyond taste, these new lemonades come with a charitable twist. For every Sweet Topped Lemonade purchased, Sonic will contribute to its ongoing Limeades for Learning initiative, which helps fund local classrooms. As part of the campaign, the company is also donating 100,000 books to students across the country.
With this release, Sonic isn’t just offering a new drink—it’s giving customers a reason to sip for a cause. The result is a win for both taste buds and communities.
The Sweet Topped Lemonades are available for a limited time while supplies last.
