El Pollo Loco, the popular Mexican-style chicken chain, is expanding its presence with plans to open new restaurants in six states, including Colorado and Texas.
Based in California, the company confirmed on May 30 that it will open at least 10 new locations in 2025 outside its home state. Among these will be its milestone 500th restaurant, scheduled to debut in Colorado Springs, Colorado. This expansion marks the largest system-wide growth since 2022.
The new restaurants will feature El Pollo Loco’s updated store design, introduced in October 2024 ahead of the chain’s 50th anniversary. Customers can expect refreshed branding, improved furniture and lighting, and energy-efficient hoods and HVAC systems.
2025 Expansion Plans
So far this year, El Pollo Loco has opened two new locations in California—in Los Banos and Lompoc. However, the majority of the upcoming openings will be outside California, targeting markets in Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, New Mexico, Texas, and Washington.
Looking Ahead to 2026 and Beyond
The company also plans to continue growing in 2026, including opening restaurants in nontraditional locations such as airports and university campuses. Future openings are expected across California, Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, New Mexico, Texas, Washington, and other states.
El Pollo Loco is known for its citrus and spice-marinated chicken, fire-grilled over a low flame for 60 minutes. Its menu also features hand-smashed guacamole, salsa fresca, and avocado salsa made with fresh tomatoes, cilantro, and onion.
