Wendy’s, the popular American fast-food chain known for its square-shaped burgers, has confirmed it will open its newest restaurant in York city centre later this month.
The opening date has been set for Thursday, June 19, after an earlier announcement mistakenly mentioned June 12. A company spokesperson confirmed the revised date following updates on social media.
The restaurant is located in St Sampson’s Square, taking over the former space of the specialist clothing retailer TM Lewin. Signs have appeared on-site, and workers have been seen preparing the location for opening.
Plans for the York Wendy’s were approved in March 2025. The new outlet is expected to create about 20 full-time and 20 part-time jobs. The restaurant will offer seating for 59 customers.
“We look forward to serving Wendy’s fresh, famous food to local consumers soon,” the spokesperson added.
