Popular American fast-food chain announces six new sites, including first in England.
Carl’s Jr., a well-known American fast-food brand praised for its burgers, has announced its upcoming expansion across the UK. The chain, which opened its first UK restaurant in Cardiff, Wales, now plans to launch six more locations in 2024 — including its first branches in England.
According to an exclusive statement to The Sun, Carl’s Jr. will open restaurants in Swansea, Southampton, Bristol, Manchester, York, and Leeds. The Swansea branch is expected to open in late August, with Southampton and Manchester targeted for October. Opening dates for the remaining cities are yet to be confirmed.
The expansion is part of Carl’s Jr.’s broader strategy to open 100 restaurants in the UK over the next five years. Specific locations and timelines for future branches have not yet been disclosed.
The chain, which began in 1941 in the United States, now operates more than 1,000 restaurants across the U.S. and in 28 international markets. It is widely recognized for signature menu items such as the Western Bacon Cheeseburger and the Famous Star, as well as its ice cream shakes.
As part of its UK rollout, Carl’s Jr. also announced plans to introduce a new burger later this month as part of its summer menu. All upcoming locations will feature a breakfast menu and offer delivery through Uber Eats.
The brand has gained a loyal global following, with some UK customers already declaring its burgers superior to McDonald’s and Burger King. On Reddit, one user said Carl’s Jr. burgers are “significantly better than anything McDonald’s or Burger King could do,” while another wrote, “Carl’s Jr. is easily better than most American fast food chains currently in the UK.”
A reviewer of the Cardiff restaurant called it the “best burger I’ve ever had,” adding to the growing anticipation among UK fast-food fans.
With several locations on the horizon and a growing buzz online, Carl’s Jr. looks set to become a major player in the UK’s competitive fast-food scene.
