After weeks of anticipation, the first Chick-fil-A in the Tri-Cities area has officially announced its opening date. On Friday, workers removed fencing from the construction site at 7009 W. Canal Drive, signaling that the restaurant is nearly ready.
The Atlanta-based chicken chain initially posted on Google Maps that the restaurant would open in June but did not specify an exact date. Chick-fil-A kept details under wraps until Sunday, when it shared a special Father’s Day announcement on social media. The company confirmed the new location at Canal Drive and Columbia Center Boulevard will open on Thursday, June 19.
The Kennewick restaurant already has active Facebook and Instagram pages. Customers will also be able to place orders through the Chick-fil-A app once the store opens. According to Chick-fil-A’s website, most of their restaurants operate from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
The Benton Franklin Health District inspected the new location on June 4, a crucial step before opening. The inspection results were still pending as of Friday.
Dawn Hodges, a Kennewick entrepreneur and U.S. Military Academy graduate from West Point, owns and operates this much-anticipated restaurant. Chick-fil-A first confirmed plans to open in the Tri-Cities more than a year ago. The company chose a former parking lot near Wendy’s in the Hobby Lobby shopping center on the west side of Kennewick.
The nearly 5,000-square-foot restaurant was finalized last week. It features 99 parking spaces, seating for 76 guests, and a covered dual-lane drive-thru. Hiring began more than a month ago, and job listings remain available at chick-fil-a.com.
Additionally, Chick-fil-A has reportedly scouted locations for a second restaurant in the Queensgate area of Richland, signaling plans for further expansion in the region.
