STOWMARKET — Popeyes, the iconic American fast food chain famous for its New Orleans-style fried chicken, has announced the opening date of its first Suffolk restaurant.
The new branch, located on Thorney Way in Stowmarket, is scheduled to open its doors at 11 a.m. on Sunday, June 30.
The launch marks a significant expansion for the company in the UK and will create 61 new jobs in the local area. The site will feature a drive-thru, indoor seating for 62 diners, self-service ordering kiosks, and collection points for takeaway orders.
Tom Crowley, CEO of Popeyes UK, expressed enthusiasm about the new opening. “We’re excited to be bringing Popeyes to Suffolk for the first time with the opening of our new drive-thru in Stowmarket this month,” he said. “We’ve been growing rapidly across the UK and launching in the region feels like the perfect next step. We can’t wait to share a taste of New Orleans with the local community.”
The Popeyes restaurant will open on a site that already hosts McDonald’s, Costa Coffee, and Starbucks. In 2022, Mid Suffolk District Council granted planning permission to the EG Group for the development of the area, which included the McDonald’s and Costa outlets.
Initial plans also included a Leon restaurant; however, that proposal was withdrawn in November 2023. Interest in the new Popeyes location became clear earlier this year when job listings for the upcoming store began circulating in February.
The Stowmarket opening adds to Popeyes’ growing footprint across the UK, as the brand continues to build momentum among British customers.
