Taco Bell to Open First Irish Restaurant This Summer in Partnership with Applegreen

by Nick

American fast-food chain Taco Bell is set to open its first restaurant in Ireland this summer, through a new partnership with service station operator Applegreen.

The Mexican-inspired brand, known for its bold flavours and affordable meals, will expand across the country over the next five years as part of Applegreen’s nationwide growth strategy. While the exact location of the first outlet has yet to be confirmed, the company says it will be based at one of its service station sites.

Applegreen’s managing director for Ireland, Seamus Stapleton, welcomed the collaboration, describing it as a key step in enhancing customer experience on the road.

“We are really excited to announce this partnership to launch the iconic Taco Bell brand in Ireland,” said Stapleton.

“This partnership underscores our commitment to bringing world-class roadside hospitality to our customers, offering them greater choice and quality while they travel. We are constantly investing in our locations, and I’m sure Irish consumers will be very excited at the arrival of Taco Bell.”

Taco Bell, which is headquartered in Irvine, California, operates more than 8,700 restaurants worldwide. Its menu includes popular items such as tacos, burritos, quesadillas, nachos, and the signature Crunchwrap Supreme.

The chain has already opened several locations at Applegreen’s Welcome Break motorway service areas in the UK. Now, it plans to build on that momentum by entering the Irish market.

Matthew Johnson, New Market Lead for Taco Bell Europe, said the move is part of the company’s broader international expansion plans.

“We are thrilled to bring Taco Bell’s innovative and flavourful menu to Ireland,” he said.

“This expansion is a testament to our commitment to growing our brand globally and delivering exceptional dining experiences to new markets. We believe that our unique offering will resonate with consumers in Ireland, providing a new and exciting dining option that celebrates bold flavours and a fun, vibrant atmosphere.”

The rollout of Taco Bell in Ireland forms part of Applegreen’s €1 billion expansion programme, announced last year. The investment will support development across the company’s operations in Ireland, the UK, and the United States, including upgrades to existing locations and the launch of new sites.

This move also reflects a growing trend of major American fast-food chains entering the Irish market. Taco Bell follows the recent arrivals of other US brands such as Wendy’s and Carl’s Jr., which are also seeking to tap into Ireland’s growing appetite for international dining options.
