Chick-fil-A is preparing to open its first storefront in Cleveland at 11435 Euclid Ave., located in the Uptown area of the city’s University Circle. This new location will mark a significant milestone for the fast-food chain, which has yet to operate a stand-alone storefront within the city limits.
The restaurant will invest $3,900 in storefront signage, with the signage being provided by Clayton Signs, a company based in Lake City, Georgia. The signage application is currently under review by the City Planning Commission.
The location, which is near the Case Western Reserve University campus, is situated in a lively area filled with popular restaurants and retailers that attract many students. However, as of now, no other construction permits have been filed for the buildout of the Chick-fil-A restaurant, according to the Cleveland Building Department.
In March, Chick-fil-A filed a lease subordination agreement with American General Life Insurance Co. and the property owner AJAPPJR Uptown LLC, a part of Cleveland-based MRN Ltd., which developed this section of Uptown in 2012.
The new store will occupy just over 2,000 square feet, previously leased by CLE Clothing Co. for nearly a decade. CLE Clothing Co. continues to operate its first location at East Fourth Street and Euclid Avenue downtown. The store also has locations in Crocker Park in Westlake, the Van Aken District in Shaker Heights, and Summit Mall in Akron.
In another part of the city, the Flats district is also seeing growth. River Roots Barrel Company, a distillery that has been in business for two years, is planning its first storefront at 1826 Columbus Rd. The space will primarily serve as a production and storage facility but will also feature limited on-site sales to the public. The renovations and build-out for the site are estimated at $585,000, as detailed in a permit application filed with the city.
These new projects, including Chick-fil-A’s arrival in University Circle and the expansion of River Roots Barrel Company in the Flats, are part of a wave of small-scale developments reshaping Cleveland’s neighborhoods. Though these commercial projects may be on a smaller scale compared to larger developments in the city, they are expected to have a significant impact on local communities.
Chick-fil-A, known for its chicken sandwiches, nuggets, salads, and sides, has been expanding its presence across the suburbs but has yet to open a stand-alone storefront within Cleveland. The chain’s first restaurant opened in Atlanta in 1967, and while there is no confirmed opening date for the new Cleveland location, it is expected to take a few months before the store opens its doors.
