Chicken strips and nuggets are making a permanent return to the menus at McDonald’s and Taco Bell.
Starting May 5, McDonald’s will bring back its chicken strips after a five-year break. The fast-food chain will offer McCrispy Strips, which are all-white chicken tenders coated in a crispy, golden-brown breading. These new strips are an extension of McDonald’s popular crispy chicken sandwich, which was added to the menu in 2021.
Alyssa Buetikofer, McDonald’s chief marketing officer, said in a press release, “The demand for chicken strips has been remarkable across the industry, so we knew we had to deliver something so craveable that it was worth the wait. We took our time, listened to our fans, and created a product we knew they would love.”
The McCrispy Strips will be available in orders of three or four, served with various sauces, including a new creamy chili dip that will also be added permanently to the menu.
Meanwhile, Taco Bell also reintroduced its crispy chicken nuggets last week. These nuggets are made from tender all-white meat chicken, marinated in zesty jalapeño buttermilk, and coated in a tortilla crumb. Taco Bell is also bringing back its “saucy sidekicks,” including Hidden Valley Fire Ranch sauce, Bell sauce, and Jalapeño Honey Mustard.
Taco Bell announced that the return of the nuggets marks the beginning of its plan to become a top destination for crispy chicken. The company aims to add a permanent crispy chicken item to the menu by 2026.
Taylor Montgomery, Taco Bell’s chief marketing officer, said, “We’re a taco place doing chicken our own way, and like all our best moments, it’s a little unexpected—because we’ve never been about following the rules.” Montgomery added that customer demand for the nuggets was “off the charts,” which led to the decision to make crispy chicken a permanent offering.
While Taco Bell’s chicken nuggets are currently a limited-time offer, the company teased more new menu items in the coming months, including new sauces and a “sweet and spicy collab” with Mike’s Hot Honey.
