TOPEKA, Kan. – June 16, 2025 — Whataburger has officially arrived in Topeka. The popular Texas-based fast-food chain opened its first restaurant in the Kansas capital on Monday, June 16, at 11 a.m., drawing eager fans and marking a new chapter in its Midwest expansion.
The new location is at 3251 S.W. Topeka Blvd. and features modern amenities designed to improve service and convenience.
These include a double drive-thru, self-order kiosks, and digital menu boards both inside and outside the building. Inside, guests will also find a custom mural celebrating Topeka, adding a local touch to the national brand.
The restaurant will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, offering full service in both the dining room and drive-thru. A total of 75 local employees have been hired to staff the new location, according to a company statement.
To celebrate the grand opening, Whataburger offered a special promotion. The first two customers in each drive-thru line and the first guest to enter the dining room received free Whataburger for a year.
Among the winners was Nora Janice, who proudly claimed the top spot in the dining room line.
“I’m from Texas, and I’ve been waiting for Whataburger to get this far for thirty years,” she said. “So excited, can’t wait. My friends have been asking me, ‘Did you get it? Did you get it?’”
Whataburger, founded in 1950 and based in San Antonio, Texas, now operates more than 1,110 restaurants in 17 states. The company continues to grow rapidly across the country, bringing its signature burgers and bold flavors to new communities.
