London, UK – In a bid to beat the summer heat, fast food giant Popeyes is set to hand out 10,000 free ice creams across the UK on June 21, marking the Summer Solstice with a nationwide giveaway.
To celebrate the longest day of the year, the Louisiana-style chain is offering its Mini Whipz sundaes in three classic flavours – Chocolate, Strawberry, and Vanilla – completely free of charge. The offer is part of the company’s initiative to “help keep the nation chill” as parts of the UK brace for a heatwave with temperatures expected to soar up to 33°C in some regions.
To take part, customers simply need to download the Popeyes app and register for an account before midnight on June 20. No purchase is necessary to qualify. Those selected to receive a free Mini Whipz will be notified via the app on June 21. Winners can redeem their ice cream at any Popeyes location across the UK.
Dave Hoskins, Head of Food at Popeyes UK, said the giveaway is in line with the brand’s warm and welcoming ethos.
“At Popeyes, we’re all about the New Orleans-style hospitality and good vibes, and we think summer’s the perfect time to soak it all in,” he said. “That’s why we’re encouraging Brits to head out with friends or family and treat themselves to a deliciously creamy Mini Whipz on the house.”
Growing Presence in the UK
Since arriving in the UK in 2021, Popeyes has quickly grown in popularity. The first UK branch opened at the Westfield shopping centre in Stratford, London, drawing praise from local residents. The chain now operates 65 locations across the UK and Ireland.
Popeyes plans to open 45 more sites in the coming year. These will include a mix of dine-in restaurants, drive-thrus, and delivery-only kitchens. Birmingham already boasts four Popeyes branches, and the company’s website lists additional locations currently under development.
Known for its Southern-style fried chicken, the fast food brand also offers a variety of sides such as Cajun fries and mac and cheese. The addition of its Mini Whipz ice creams to the menu was introduced to complement its expanding offerings and broaden its appeal during warmer months.
