Swansea, UK – June 2025 — American fast food giant Carl’s Jr is set to expand its presence in the UK with a second location opening in Wales, just months after debuting its first British restaurant in Cardiff.
Construction signs have appeared on Wind Street in Swansea, where Carl’s Jr will occupy part of the former TGI Friday’s building. The rest of the space will be shared with Slim Chickens, another U.S.-based restaurant chain, which has already confirmed a grand opening for Thursday, June 26.
Known for its classic American-style menu, Carl’s Jr offers items such as the Six Dollar Burger, hand-scooped milkshakes, and charbroiled turkey burgers. The chain was founded in California in 1941 by Carl and Margaret Karcher and has since grown into a globally recognized brand.
Carl’s Jr is entering the UK and Irish markets through a franchise agreement with Boparan Restaurant Group, which also owns Gourmet Burger Kitchen, Carluccio’s, and Slim Chickens. The company opened its first UK branch earlier this year in Cardiff’s St David’s Centre.
The new Swansea branch is expected to open in early September, although the exact date has not yet been confirmed by the company.
Fans of the brand have welcomed the expansion, with many taking to social media to share their enthusiasm. Some have even compared Carl’s Jr favorably to established fast food rivals.
One user on X (formerly Twitter) wrote, “Carl’s Jr is easily better than McDonald’s, Burger King, and probably most other American fast food chains currently in the UK.” Another added, “Carl’s Jr is better than McDonald’s. El Diablo is tasty as f**k.”
The expansion doesn’t stop in Swansea. According to The Sun, Carl’s Jr has plans to open five more UK locations by the end of 2025. These new sites are reportedly planned for Southampton, Bristol, Leeds, Manchester, and York.
Ahead of the upcoming openings, a spokesperson for Carl’s Jr shared the brand’s excitement: “We are extremely excited and love the amount of love the Welsh people are showing Carl’s Jr!”
With strong momentum and growing customer support, Carl’s Jr appears poised to become a major player in the UK fast food scene.
