After a longer wait than expected, Corner Brook natives Wayne Hicks and Andrew Fleming are excited to announce that construction has officially begun on their new Wendy’s restaurant on Confederation Drive.
The business partners, who have been friends since junior high, first revealed their plans in October 2022 through East to West Holdings. Hicks continues to live in Corner Brook, while Fleming is based in St. John’s.
Finding a suitable location for the fast-food chain proved to be a challenge. Fleming explained that the delay was mainly due to the difficulty of securing a property that could accommodate both a full-size building and a drive-thru.
“In Corner Brook, it’s increasingly difficult to find a location for a restaurant with the space we needed for a drive-thru and for a full-size building,” he said.
The chosen site, located next to the Circle K on Confederation Drive, was actually one of the first they considered. Eventually, Wendy’s decided to purchase the property, but completing the due diligence process took longer than expected.
“It took a little longer than what we thought, but we’re here,” Fleming said.
Despite the delays, both Hicks and Fleming remained confident in their project.
“Wendy’s is an incredible brand,” Fleming added. “They really want you to succeed, and they have systems in place to help make that happen. We knew from the start it would be great—it was just a matter of finding the right location.”
