Taco Bell is shaking up its drink menu with new beverage offerings aimed at competing with other fast-food chains and appealing especially to younger customers.
Specialty drinks have become a major trend in the food industry over recent years. Many brands are creating unique beverages to attract customers, boost sales, and stand out from rivals.
Taco Bell noticed this trend gaining momentum, particularly among Gen Z consumers. To tap into the demand, the chain introduced specialty drinks in its restaurants, starting with the popular Mountain Dew Baja Blast. This exclusive drink quickly became a fan favorite and even earned Taco Bell a trademark.
To further capitalize on this trend, Taco Bell opened its first-ever Live Más Café in Chula Vista, California. This new concept features a wide variety of drinks, including milkshakes, iced and hot coffee, fruity beverages, and fizzy sodas.
Testing the Waters: Agua Refrescas
In April 2024, Taco Bell launched a limited test of Agua Refrescas at a Southern California location. These drinks are green tea-based, infused with real fruit pieces and caffeine (52 mg per serving). Flavors included Strawberry Passionfruit, Peach Mango, and Dragonfruit Berry.
Taco Bell’s Chief Marketing Officer, Taylor Montgomery, said at the time, “We want to make our beverages just as iconic as our food. Our new Agua Refrescas offer vibrant flavors that pair perfectly with everything our fans love from Taco Bell. This is a step toward making Taco Bell a go-to spot for beverages.”
Despite positive buzz, the Agua Refrescas did not immediately expand beyond the test location.
Refrescas Return, Nationwide
Now, Taco Bell has brought back the Agua Refrescas for a limited time and expanded availability to participating locations across the country. Along with the original three flavors, the chain introduced a new Strawberry Lime Freeze—a frozen take on the popular green tea-based drinks.
By relaunching Refrescas nationwide and adding a frozen option, Taco Bell aims to strengthen its place in the competitive fast-food beverage market and continue attracting customers seeking unique drink choices.
