DUBLIN — U.S. fast-food giant Taco Bell is set to enter the Irish market later this summer through a strategic partnership with forecourt retailer Applegreen.
Applegreen confirmed the move on Monday, revealing that several Taco Bell outlets will open at its service station locations across Ireland over the next five years. While the exact site of the first restaurant has not yet been disclosed, the rollout is part of Applegreen’s broader plan to enhance its roadside hospitality offerings.
“We are really excited to announce this partnership to launch the iconic Taco Bell brand in Ireland,” said Seamus Stapleton, Managing Director of Applegreen’s Republic of Ireland division. “This partnership underscores our commitment to bringing world-class roadside hospitality to our customers, offering them greater choice and quality while they travel.”
Taco Bell, which operates more than 8,700 restaurants worldwide, already has a presence in the UK through several outlets located at Applegreen’s Welcome Break motorway service areas. The brand is known for its bold flavors and quick-serve Mexican-style menu, featuring tacos, burritos, and quesadillas.
Matthew Johnson, new market lead for Taco Bell Europe, expressed enthusiasm about the company’s Irish debut. “This expansion is a testament to our commitment to growing our brand globally and delivering exceptional dining experiences to new markets,” he said. “We believe that our unique offering will resonate with consumers in Ireland, providing a new and exciting dining option that celebrates bold flavours and a fun, vibrant atmosphere.”
The Taco Bell partnership forms part of Applegreen’s €1 billion investment programme announced last November. The plan spans five years and includes upgrades to its Welcome Break sites in Britain and further development of its electric vehicle charging network.
Applegreen operates nearly 200 service locations across Ireland and over 430 internationally. The company employs approximately 16,000 people across its network.
Earlier this year, Applegreen also revealed a separate collaboration with U.S. chain Chick-fil-A, which will see the brand open in Northern Ireland in the near future.
