Walmart is giving fans of fried chicken a fresh reason to explore its frozen food aisle. The retail giant recently introduced a new product that could challenge KFC’s popular chicken and waffles meal.
KFC brought back its chicken and waffles in April, delighting fans after a five-year absence. The returning meal features crispy fried chicken served alongside waffles with syrup, a classic pairing loved by many.
But Walmart is now offering an alternative. Its new Bettergoods line, launched earlier this month, includes a brunch-inspired hot honey chicken and waffle breakfast sandwich.
Unlike KFC’s plate-style meal, the Bettergoods option is a handheld sandwich with hot honey drizzle. This differs from KFC’s current version, which serves the chicken and waffles separately with syrup on the side.
KFC customers who want a similar sandwich experience can order chicken tenders and assemble their own. Some KFC locations also offer hot honey sauce as a side option.
Price may be a deciding factor for shoppers. KFC’s chicken and waffles meal starts at around $7. Meanwhile, Walmart’s Bettergoods product comes with two sandwiches for $5.84, making it a more affordable choice.
Walmart’s Bettergoods line offers more than just the chicken and waffle sandwich. The collection also features custard-filled waffles, mixed berry-filled waffles, and a salsa verde hash brown breakfast sandwich.
With these new frozen meals, Walmart hopes to attract brunch lovers looking for convenience and value, while giving KFC a run for its money in the chicken and waffles category.
