Chipotle Mexican Grill is turning up the heat this summer with a nationwide giveaway. As part of its new “Summer of Extras” promotion, the popular fast-casual chain will distribute 10,000 free burritos each week through the end of August.
To qualify for the promotion, customers must enroll in the Chipotle Rewards program and opt into the Summer of Extras campaign. The promotion runs through August 31 and is aimed at rewarding loyal fans while drawing in new customers.
The giveaway is the latest move in what has been a busy year for the burrito brand. In March, Chipotle was forced to address online rumors about its business operations. The confusion stemmed from a misleading report by Unión Rayo, which claimed the company was shutting down. The article included a promotional image bearing the Chipotle logo, but was actually referring to the closure of Farmesa Fresh Eatery—a separate fast-casual concept the company tested in 2023.
Looking ahead, Chipotle is planning a major expansion. According to Good Morning America, the chain aims to open up to 345 new restaurants in 2025. Notably, at least 80% of those locations will include “Chipotlane” drive-thru pickup lanes, designed to cater to digital orders.
Chipotle also made headlines this spring by launching a new menu item: Hot Honey Chicken. According to a company press release, the dish features grilled chicken seasoned with Mexican spices and marinated with smoky chipotle peppers and a hint of pure honey.
“Chipotle Honey Chicken was our top-performing limited-time offer in test markets,” said Chris Brandt, Chipotle’s Chief Brand Officer. “We’re excited for guests to taste this bold new protein with their go-to order. The delicate balance of heat and a touch of sweet pairs perfectly with our real ingredients prepared fresh every day.”
With new flavors, ambitious growth plans, and thousands of free burritos up for grabs, Chipotle is positioning itself for a strong summer season and beyond.
