Wendy’s is bringing its famous bacon from the restaurant to grocery store shelves, though not alongside its popular burger patties — at least, not yet.
The chain’s applewood-smoked bacon, known for topping fan favorites like the Baconator, has recently appeared packaged and ready to buy in some grocery stores, including a Kroger in Kentucky. The packaging calls it “restaurant-inspired” and “double-smoked,” but it’s unclear if it’s the exact same bacon served at Wendy’s restaurants.
This new grocery bacon has sparked mixed reactions online. Some fans are excited and eager to try it, while others question why Wendy’s would sell bacon separately from its fresh, never frozen burger patties, which are already available in stores in Ohio and Colorado. Skeptics wonder if the bacon will truly match the taste customers expect or if it’s just a marketing tactic.
Wendy’s has been steadily expanding into grocery aisles over the past year. It started with canned chili, followed by refrigerated burger patties, and now bacon. If they add a frozen Frosty next, fans might soon enjoy a Wendy’s-inspired meal at home without ever stopping by the drive-thru.
For now, the bacon appears to be in a test phase in select markets like Kentucky and possibly Virginia, as the company gauges consumer interest. Why Wendy’s hasn’t launched the bacon alongside its burger patties remains unclear, but the move signals the brand’s growing focus on reaching customers beyond its restaurants.
