Starbucks to Open First Iceland Locations in May 2025

by Nick

Starbucks is set to make its debut in Iceland with the opening of its first café in Reykjavík in May 2025, marking a significant step in the company’s expansion into the Nordic region.

Expansion into the Nordic Market

The announcement of Starbucks’ expansion into Iceland was made in August 2024. The company has partnered with Malaysian licensee Berjaya Food Berhad (BFood), which will operate two new Starbucks cafés in Iceland through its subsidiary, Berjaya Food International (BFI). In addition to these two locations in Iceland, BFI plans to open further Starbucks cafés in Denmark and Finland. This marks BFood’s first venture into the Nordic region.

Starbucks branding can already be seen on a storefront at Laugavegur 66 to 68, a popular shopping street in Reykjavík. Job listings on Icelandic employment site Alfred.is suggest that the second location may be situated near Lækjartorg Square in downtown Reykjavík.

BFood has been operating Starbucks stores in Malaysia for over two decades. Duncan Moir, President of Starbucks Europe, Middle East, and Africa, also expressed his enthusiasm about expanding the partnership across the globe.

“Building on our 26-year relationship with BFood, we are excited to further connect with more customers over a handcrafted Starbucks beverage and make impactful investments in our green apron partners (employees) as well as the community,” Moir stated.

Starbucks’ Presence in Iceland

While these two upcoming cafés will be Starbucks’ first in Iceland, the company’s coffee has already been available for purchase across the country for some time. The opening of these new stores will mark a new chapter for the coffee giant in Iceland and the wider Nordic market.
